Depth Over Fluency

Code assistants now write competent code on demand, even in languages we have barely touched. This talk argues that language fluency and language depth are decoupling. Fluency is the muscle memory of idiomatic code, and we can now borrow it from an assistant. Depth means understanding type systems, concurrency models, memory semantics and a language’s design trade-offs, and it lets us evaluate, steer and trust what the assistant produces. The assistant does the typing, but the judgment is still yours.
